Alaskan Hard Rock Mining in the 21st Century: From Discovery to Closure

Facilitator: Dr. Charles Hawley

A balanced and informative survey of the mining industry, its history in Alaska and present‐day controversies. Dr. Hawley has invited several lecturers from both sides to help create an understanding of the major issues – from mining basics to the effects of the industry on people, wildlife and habitat. Interpreting the Second World War

Teacher: Dr. Will Jacobs

An examination of the major historical debates on the causes, courses, and consequences of the Second World War. A published scholar in the fields of American strategy, Allied high command, and Allied tactical and strategic air operations, Dr. Jacobs taught a course on the history of the Second World War at UAA for over twenty years. Teacher: Dr. Beverly Beeton

Dr. Beverly Beeton, former Provost and Vice Chancellor at UAA and a practicing historian, presents new research on the social history of Alaska in the early decades of the twentieth century when white women first came to the state with more on their agendas than making a fortune. A story of community service, voting rights, prostitution and prohibition. Further information is posted.
