Overbooked Classes!
You may have noticed that OLE! classrooms are a lot more crowded this term. You can tell that OLE! has been experiencing growing pains. We apologize for not anticipating the changes needed to accommodate this surge in new members and we did not close the classes in a timely manner.
Several Winter Courses have now been closed:
Why the Columbian Exchange Matters
Central Asia: Afghanistan
Anthropology of Cook Inlet
Computer Help
Guided Autobiography Workshop
Others are very close to being full. The number of people registered for some courses exceeds the number of seats in the room. We are exploring the possibility of finding a larger room for at least some of these courses.
Throughout the term, many members travel or are absent for one reason or another . There are usually several vacancies, so OLE! is using the “airline method” to accommodate the over-booking of students registered for a course. Please arrive at your class early to be sure to get the seating that you want. If you are seated next to an empty seat, please raise your hand to help a latecomer find a space. If there is no seat when you arrive, you can pull in a chair from another classroom. Unfortunately, we cannot offer a free ticket if you don’t get a seat!
OLE! apologizes if you are registered, and you find that there is simply not enough space. Please let us know if you turn away, as we want to collect data on how often, if ever, that occurs.
OLE will be changing its procedures to be able to close courses before over-booking occurs. If you are truly interested in a particular course, it would be best to register by email early in the registration process.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
